I recently came across this:
Although it can be disappointing seeing others walk away with your photographic work, it is one of the main risks of publishing them on the internet. However, this is not an excuse for us using someone elses work. [sic]
It was on a pseudo about us/copyright info page on a website I stumbled across. Unfortunately, this person is sorely mistaken.
While there is a risk of someone grabbing your images from your website, it isn't just something one should accept so matter-of-factly. Why? Because it is illegal for someone to use images from your site without your explicit, written approval. Your website - to whatever extent - is protected by copyright law.
