Stating the obvious

During a recent site development, a client had a question about the use of "about" for a link in the navigation link area of the site. They preferred "about us" or even "about" plus the company name and asked us our opinion.

We ended up going with "about" plus the company name. Perhaps it doesn't make a huge difference anyway. But it still makes me wonder if it's redundant, or perhaps insulting a visitor's intelligence?

So here's a question for all 3 of our readers: If you're on a site and you see a link with the word "about" isn't it fair and reasonable to assume that you're going to a page about that site or company, or is it actually meaningful to see "about us" or "about Acme"? Let us know your thoughts below.
