Pacific Wallboard
August 2008
Up until recently Pacific Wallboard had been coming to us for updating and maintaining their company site. And while this worked well, it was time for a new site. Time for a new look and the ability to maintain the site in-house. And that's just what we delivered.
We started with PacWall's goals, which was to create a destination site that provided the information they want to get out to their target audience. They know very well who would visit their site and what it would take to get them to pick up the phone or send an email. To that end, we crafted custom copy to tell their story so as to appeal to their target market. From a design standpoint, we made a dramatic change from the gray, somewhat bland look they previously had, to a much more friendlier and cleaner look. The design now better conveys PacWall as the people-oriented company that they are. In short, it makes them much more approachable.
In addition to emphasizing their story through design, we also focused on ease of use. We accomplished this simply by keeping the navigation simple. This allows users to quickly find information. In conjunction with that, we developed a new way for PacWall to show off its projects. Simply put, they sport a much more user-friendly photo gallery organized by state and the contractor they worked on the project with. Best of all, despite it being a JavaScript-based gallery, it degrades gracefully for those folks with older browsers or JavaScript disabled.
Lastly, another major component of the site was integrating it with ExpressionEngine. Doing so provides the PacWall staff with the independence and freedom to add and edit their site's content on their own with little to no HTML knowledge whatsoever, whenever they need to.
